KASIER CHIEFS: “‘OFF WITH THEIR HEADS’ SOUNDS VERY DIFFERENT

“A band has to be thinking on releasing new material constantly. Otherwise, it doesn’t make sense”, according to Nick Hodgson , drummer and composer of Kaiser Chiefs. Their last album “Off With Their Heads” (Universal) released last 2008, arrived just a year later than their previous “Yours Truly Angry Mob”. In fact, the idea wasn’t to record a new album but an EP, everything else came out spontaneously. “We were recording what finally became the single, ‘Never Missed A Beat’, and a lot of ideas started to appear. And with them new songs that finally ended up in a new record. It arrived without any pressure, we didn’t have any intention to do it. The word ‘freshness’ was the most repeated one through all the sessions”.

An LP, thus, developed somehow within the studio. “We even wrote some lyrics in the studio. In previous albums we had all the material ready before recording. It was good that producers worked with us and told us ‘this is cool, this isn’t?”.

For “Off With Their Heads” the British band has left behind the producer of previous albums Stephen Street and this time they have worked with Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen and the new album by The Rumble Strips). “We choose Mark specially because it was him who called us offering us to do it. He adapted very quickly to the environment of the sessions and he got an excellent sound. It’s easy to discover that ‘Off With Their Heads’ sounds very different to ‘Employment’ or ‘Yours Truly, Angry Mob’. He himself is speaking very well about the album in the interviews we’ve read which satisfies us very much”.
